Dementia and Activities

This course shows you how to create, adapt and deliver activities sessions for older people living with dementia living in care settings and the community.  The training sessions throughout the day are very practical, simple to understand, and easy to apply on the care floor and community.

Duration: 10am to 3.30pm

By the end of the course delegates will have the knowledge to understand:

  1. What are social activities and the health and safety considerations required to keep the resident, the session leader and organisation safe
  2. How the stages of dementia affect participation in social activities
  3. The social and emotional changes that happen as we age. The affect these have on people and the role of social activities in alleviating some of these affects
  4. How to apply skills needed for conducting individual and group activities
  5. How to create and adapt sessions for those with a range of elderly conditions in addition to dementia

Attendees

The course is designed for individuals who work or volunteer with older people in residential and nursing homes, sheltered housing and day centres.

Certification

Delegates will be issued with certificates of achievement.
