Successful candidates would then be able to teach moving and handling refresher courses.</p>
<p><strong>Aim</strong></p>
<p>The aim of the course is to teach students the skills needed to train, coach and supervise person centered moving and handling of patients.</p>
<p><strong>Practically Based Learning Outcomes:</strong></p>
<p>By the end of the course students will be able to demonstrate how to:</p>
<ol>
<li>Informally assess a residents physical and mental capability</li>
<li>Help a resident stand from a chair and bed</li>
<li>Help a resident transfer safely</li>
<li>Assist a resident to walk a short distance</li>
<li>Help a resident move in bed with equipment</li>
<li>Turn a resident in bed</li>
<li>Slide a resident in bed</li>
<li>Use a variety of pieces of small handling equipment</li>
<li>Hoist a resident form bed to chair and chair to bed</li>
<li>Handling of objects</li>
<li>Informatively and summatively assess students</li>
<li>Research and plan handling training sessions</li>
<li>Create relevant learning materials and resources</li>
<li>Deliver a handling training session in a variety ways without PowerPoint</li>
<li>Communicate and mange students effectively</li>
<li>Evaluate training needs and programs</li>
<li>RIDDOR, incident and accident investigation</li>
<li>Critically reflect</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Theory Based Learning Outcomes:</strong></p>
<p>By the end of the course students will be able to:</p>

<li>Assess staff performance, needs and ability</li>
<li>Assess residents ability and needs</li>
<li>Understand Handling Regulations and their application in a workplace</li>
<li>Identify and apply the core bio-mechanical principles of safer handling</li>
<li>Identify how the spine and muscles can be damaged by poor handling</li>
<li>Identify the role TVA and the posterior chain in safer handling</li>
<li>Explain the relationship between ergonomics and safer handling</li>
<li>Deal with special handling considerations</li>
<li>Plan emergency evacuations</li>
<li>Explain the organisations role in handling</li>
<li>Identify the different types learning styles and how people learn</li>
<li>Plan organisationally relevant training sessions</li>
<li>Use a variety of training media and presentation techniques</li>
<li>Identify how to communicate effectively in training sessions</li>
<li>Manage and direct students</li>
<li>Manage the transfer of skills from the training room to the workplace</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Assessment</strong></p>
<p>The assessment comprises three areas:</p>
<ol>
<li>Practical teaching assessment</li>
<li>Practical handling of people assessment</li>
<li>Theory paper</li>
</ol>
<p><strong>Note:</strong></p>
<p>The course is a very intensive and fun weeks training. There is a homework element each night and each day is a very full on experience. The course offers a lot of hands on in two important subject areas:</p>
<ol>
<li>Practical moving and handling of patients skills</li>
<li>Practical teaching, coaching and supervision skills for person centered handling</li>
</ol>
<p>However all that attend need to a have a current moving and handling of patients qualification and a least three years relevant handling experience in the care sector.</p>

<p>This course identifies the ten key points required to provide dignity in care, how to apply them in reality in their day-to-day practice and mental coach others in maintaining dignity in care for their service users.</p>
