Activities and Risk Assessment

This course shows you how to create, adapt and perform risk assessments for the safe, fun delivery of activities for older people living in care settings and community. The training sessions throughout the day are very practical, simple to understand, and easy to apply on the care floor and out in the community.

Duration: 10am to 4.30pm

By the end of the course delegates will have the knowledge to understand:

  1. The types of risks they face when planning and attending events with service users
  2. The difference between informal and formal risk assessment
  3. How to conduct an informal risk assessment
  4. How to perform a formal risk assessment
  5. Identify their role in keeping formal risk assessment is up to date
  6. How to create and adapt events for those with:
  • Dementia, Parkinson’s disease, Stroke, MS
  • Huntington’s disease, Mental health problems, Bed bound
  • Arthritis, allergies, heart problems, addictive behaviours, COPD

Attendees

The course is designed for individuals who work or volunteer with older people in residential and nursing homes, sheltered housing and day centres.

Certification

A certificate will be issued following completion of the course.
