Chair Pilates

Available in Australia Only

Exercise is an important part of any activity programme for older people. There are many misconceptions with physical activity in later life. Many care and nursing homes will be delivering chair based exercise either in house or externally. After a while though residents can become fed up with the same exercise session over and over again. One way to introduce something new is Chair Based Pilates. This PDF book looks at different pilates techniques which have been adapted for older people and helps with mental health. The book aims to make up for any gaps in a simple and straight forward way. It explores the reality of providing chair based pilates in social care settings. How we need to consider the affects of dementia and chronic long term illness on the person and how this relates to their ability to exercise. Their motivation to exercise.

The book uses a four stage physical and mental model which breaks down a person’s ability to exercise at each stage. What exercises are suitable for each stage. This could be a full exercise session, a mini/individual session or just breathing and relaxation exercises.

The PDF book also looks at different breathing exercises you can do with older people. It runs through a full body stretching programme and visualisation. Furthermore the book looks at who you can and can’t exercise and any health and safety considerations.

The book is downloadable and once purchased you will receive an email. The cost of the manual is 20 Australian Dollars. You can purchase it directly from this website or if you would like more information or to speak with someone please email louisa@thctc.co.uk.
