Massage and Older People

This course shows you how to create, adapt and deliver a range of safe massages for older people living in care settings.  All our courses are very practical, and you’ll learn techniques that are easy to apply on the care floor.  The course looks at physical changes as we age, health and safety considerations including risk assessment and how to provide massage safely.

Duration : 10am to 3pm

By the end of the course delegates will have the knowledge to understand :

  1. The physical changes that happen as we age.  The affect these have on people and the role of massage in alleviating some of these affects.
  2. Things you need to think about when massaging older people. The affect massage has on improving mobility, pain and quality of life.
  3. Health and safety considerations required to keep the resident, masseur and organisation safe
  4. How to deliver a range of safe, easy massage techniques that can be used in care settings
  5. How to create and adapt massages for:
  • Neck pain, stiff shoulders, painful elbows and fingers, lower back pain, painful calf, feet and toes

Attendees

The course is aimed at staff, volunteers and informal carers working with older people in day care centres, sheltered housing, supported living or generally working with older people in residential and nursing homes, sheltered housing and day centres.

Certification

A certificate is issued upon completion of the course.
