Music Therapy for Care

This course shows you how to create, adapt and deliver music therapy session for older people living in care settings and community.  The training sessions throughout the day are very practical, simple to understand, and easy to apply on the care floor.

Duration: 10am to 4.30pm

By the end of the course delegates will have the knowledge to understand :

  1. What is music therapy and how does it connect to reminiscence and life history
  2. How to apply skills needed for conducting individual and group music therapy sessions
  3. The social and emotional changes that happen as we age. The affect these have on people and the role of music therapy in alleviating some of these affects.
  4. The health and safety considerations required to keep the resident, the session leader and organisation safe
  5. How to structure and provide sessions lasting between 15 and 45 minutes.
  6. How to create and adapt sessions for those with :
  • Dementia, Parkinson’s disease, stroke, MS, sight loss, hearing loss, Huntington’s disease, mental health problems and bed bound.

Attendees

The course is designed for individuals who work or volunteer with older people in residential and nursing homes, sheltered housing and day centres.

Certification

Delegates will be issued with certificates of achievement.
